You can solve this problem by using good-fit toe pads sometimes, especially for the first case. But still, after wearing them for a while, the shoes get stretched, and you will feel sinking again. Is it time to let the shoes retire? Maybe not!
Our team talked so many dancers who had the issue, and we tried to find the better solution besides using toe pads.
One day, one of our team was playing with play dough with her daughter, and got a-ha! moment. She put some of the dough in her shoes, and thought that would be a life saver.
Of course play dough was too soft to stay in one place. We tried paper clay, and it became too hard and was painful. After trying many different materials, we came up with the silicon based paste.
